Scotiabank Convention Centre, in Niagara Falls, appoints Noel Buckley as its new President and General Manager
Niagara Falls, Canada (June 4, 2015) – The Scotiabank Convention Centre, in Niagara Falls (SCCN) and its Board of Directors are proud to announce the appointment of Noel Buckley as President and General Manager of the region’s largest conventions and meetings facility.
“After a thorough and deliberate recruitment and selection process, we are delighted to have Noel Buckley lead the team at the Scotiabank Convention Centre through its next chapter, a time of exciting changes and new opportunities here in Niagara,” says Wayne Thomson, Chairman of the Board at the Scotiabank Convention Centre. “With an impressive career in the hospitality and tourism sector spanning over 25 years, we are confident that Noel is the right person to grab the reins of this organization as it heads towards its fifth year in operation.”
The search for the SCCN President and General Manager role took over a year and began soon after the position became vacant in September 2013. “This was extensive and involved process which required us to ensure that no stone was left unturned,” says Anthony Annunziata, SCCN Board of Director and Chairman of the Search and Hiring Committee tasked with the difficult job to find the convention centre’s new leader. “We worked with a global executive search firm and through them we were able to give this opportunity the kind of national and international exposure it deserved. The Search and Hiring Committee considered dozens of strong applicants and interviewed a good number of qualified candidates.” Anthony concludes by saying, “We are pleased with the outcome; and we are positive that Noel is the right person to be at the helm moving this organization forward.”
“I’m honoured to have been selected by the Board of Directors at the Scotiabank Convention Centre for this post,” says Noel Buckley. “Niagara is undergoing an exciting transformation and I’m thrilled to be part of the team that will be marketing, promoting, selling and managing Niagara Falls and its first rate tourism and destination infrastructure.”
For over 25 years, Noel Buckley has worked in the Canadian tourism and hospitality industry serving in progressively more responsible roles. After serving as President of the St. Catharines Chamber of Commerce from 1986 to 1995, Noel Buckley was President of Niagara Falls Tourism between 1995 and 2005. In 2005 to 2007, he served as Senior Director of Business Development and Sales for the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. In 2008, Noel relocated to the nation’s capital where he served as President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism, a post he held for over 7 years and performed with excellence. With his new appointment as President and General Manager at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, Noel Buckley will apply his broad knowledge of sales and marketing, and his in-depth experience of the tourism and hospitality industry, along with his rich understanding of the complex dynamics between the business and political sectors.
“I recognize the big challenge as well as the huge opportunity that comes with this position” says Noel referring to the many roles he will be playing at the convention centre and within Niagara. “But the burden is made lighter knowing I can rely on the talents and strengths of the team of professionals at the convention centre and throughout the destination; and the insights and wisdom from its Board of Directors.” Noel adds, “I look forward to working closely with the convention centre’s strategic and tourism partners in addition to regional business and political contacts to ensure no possible synergy or opportunity is overlooked.”
Noel Buckley officially assumes his responsibilities at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in early July.
